MEMBERS VOTE YES

30.11.09

Today is the beginning of an historic occasion for the profession of occupational therapy in Australia with OT AUSTRALIA members overwhelmingly voting in favour of the move to a single national entity at the Special General Meeting on Saturday 28 November 2009. [The votes were cast in accordance with the Constitution and the result was 89.23% in favour of the special resolution].

The successful vote indicates that members have been successful in voting to wind up the activities and operations of OT AUSTRALIA, as well as in transferring and assigning the assets of the same organisation to Occupational Therapy Australia Limited.

The members vote also reaffirms the goals and objectives that the OT AUSTRALIA Council set forth in recommending this union.

To ensure that the transition process is undertaken without any disruption to the provision of our services to members, OT AUSTRALIA members will continue to receive their membership privileges into the new entity until their existing membership expires.

In addition, the new entity is already in a position to activate its operating, financial, information and human resource systems.

The amalgamation is not complete however as it will be necessary for each Member Association to arrange a State/Territory vote in order to join the same single entity and combine both State and National resources. Your local Member Association will let you know the details regarding this last phase of transition.

The change will offer exciting synergies across the nation for the profession to work more collaboratively and over the coming year Occupational Therapy Australia Limited will begin to co-ordinate their member services, expand the CPD program and enhance online facilities.

Occupational Therapy Australia Limited will keep you informed through our usual forms of communications, on our progress towards launching the single entity over the coming twelve months.

On behalf of OT AUSTRALIA I would like to thank you for your contribution and dedication to the association and for playing a part in shaping its future. I look forward to welcoming you to Occupational Therapy Australia Limited.

Yours sincerely

Peta Raison
OT AUSTRALIA President
