NATIONAL REHABILITATION STRATEGY

5.2.2010

Occupational Therapy Australia has been invited by the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine within the Royal Australian College of Physicians to contribute to the development of a multidisciplinary National Rehabilitation Strategy. An Alliance of the key professions involved in rehabilitation has been formed and includes occupational therapy, nursing, physicians, physiotherapy, psychology, speech pathology and social work.
A draft of the strategy will be presented to the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing by a contingent representing the professions on the Alliance on 10th March 2010.
A major aspect of this strategy is to draw attention to shortages in the rehabilitation workforce. The Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC) who is a member of this Alliance has circulated a survey to subscribing organisations to gather information about the rehabilitation workforce. AROC has requested the professional bodies to urge the allied health managers of subscribing organisations to complete this survey and return it to AROC by 12 February 2010.
A list of the subscribing organisations is located here.

If you work for one of these organisations, would you please encourage your occupational therapy manager to liaise with the manager of your organisation to ensure that this survey is completed in by the deadline to maximise the accuracy of the data that is contained in the strategy.
In order to secure funds to develop the strategy, it is important for occupational therapists to be involved in the provision of this information.
A copy of the survey can be obtained from AROC by contacting the following:
